If you’ve used another social media platform in the past, you may be wondering what on Bluesky is public and what’s private.
In general, you should treat everything you do on Bluesky as public, even if people who haven’t been invited to Bluesky can’t see your activity yet. That means that your posts and likes are public, and you should only post things you’re okay with lots of strangers seeing.
Unlike other platforms, the list of people that you block is something others can find out. That means that if you choose to restrict a user’s access to your posts, your decision is public information. However, muting someone — which only prevents you from seeing that person’s posts — is private.
While you may be accustomed to being able to send private messages to others on each platform, Bluesky doesn’t have private messaging.
